How Do I Know Which Fitness Program Is Best For My Goals?

When it comes to physical fitness, it’s exceedingly rare to not have goals. Fitness isn’t some catch-all activity; centuries of knowledge, research, and experience have culminated into an incredible variety of different fitness programs that all meet different needs. At Re:Gen Fitness Center in Prosper, TX, we offer Pilates, barre, yoga and spin classes, all of which have their own unique benefits.

So how do you know which one is best? In this blog post, we’ll break down some of the perks of each program, and which one you might want to consider for your needs.

Choosing the Right Program

Goal: I Want to Build Muscle Strength
Try: Pilates

Between Pilates, barre, yoga and spin, Pilates is the one that’s mostly oriented towards working your muscles, particularly your core. Pilates shares a lot in common with yoga, from the nature of the exercises to the relaxing effects gained from body awareness and breathing patterns, but Pilates arguably puts strength and fitness first, and relaxation second, whereas with yoga the opposite is true.

Barre and spin are both more cardio-based exercises, making Pilates the best choice if you want to build muscle, especially in your core, on which the program puts a lot of emphasis. Having a strong core will benefit you in nearly every aspect of your life, due to how foundational it is to your everyday movements.

Goal: I Want to Relax My Body and Soul
Try: Yoga

While yoga isn’t a leisurely walk in the park (expect to walk out with a lot of sweat), it’s definitely the most conducive to personal relaxation. That’s the name of the game with yoga, combining physical movements and exercises with meditation and focused breathing to achieve ultimate relaxation. While you’ll definitely get a workout and improve your flexibility with yoga, the end goal is the physical and mental aspect of rejuvenation. If that’s your primary directive, stop by your local Prosper yoga class at Re:Gen today!

Goal: I Want to Lose Weight Through Cardio
Try: Spin

Of the four fitness programs we offer to the people of the Prosper area, our spin classes are the most cardio oriented, no question. Fortunately, it’s not just 45 minutes of just churning away on a bike with no stimulation; our Re:Cycle class uses principles from Pilates such as cueing, making it a unique experience that will work you hard.

If burning calories is a priority, look no further! Spin classes put the least amount of emphasis on muscle development, so if you just want to break a sweat, this will be great for you. That’s not to say you won’t get some strength training — you can expect your legs to get quite a workout.

Goal: I Want a Balance of Strength and Cardio Training
Try: Barre

Barre is a relatively new discipline that’s kind of a fun mishmash of all three of the other programs. You get the muscle control from Pilates, the flexibility and movement training of Yoga, and the cardiovascular aspect of spin. Barre is inspired by ballet and is often seen as a “dancing” form of Pilates or yoga.

With barre, your fitness goals will be met with a healthy amount of cardio and body awareness training. Countless residents of the Prosper area have come to enjoy our Re:Barre class; we invite you to stop by today!
